Upon completion of the programme, participants will be eligible to receive the diploma certificate and the Registered Trust Practitioner (RTP) professional designation certificate, certifying them to provide advice on the use of trusts in their respective roles.

Key Learning Outcomes

By attending this programme, you will be able to:

  1. Construct and interpret a set of trusts accounts
  2. Advise on the classification, types and uses of trusts, the factors affecting their validity and the circumstances under which they can and cannot be altered
  3. Explain the roles, responsibilities, limitations and liabilities of trustees, protectors and cases of enforcement under local and international law
  4. Explain the duties and responsibilities of trustees in relation to investment matters under local and international legislation
  5. Advise on the use of trusts in modern tax planning
  6. Carry out “know your client” (KYC) checks that are required for compliance with anti-money laundering regulations in your local jurisdiction

Curriculum

Become a Wealth Planning Expert in 30 hours

Module 1
History of Trust and Type of Trust
Introduction to the evolution of early trust concepts for current use and applications.

Module 2
Trust and Management
Analysis of major components of trust including parties to a trust, set up formalities and the trust deed.

Module 3
Estate Planning
Understanding of the use of trust in estate planning and the role and duties of the trustee.

Module 4
Trust Law and Case Studies
Examination of representative case laws, from Hong Kong and commonwealth countries, that have shaped the trust environment we know today.

Module 5
Wealth Management and Trust
Introduction to the use of trust in commonwealth law management issues including last will, divorce and bankruptcy. 

*The course will be conducted in accordance with the usual workflow of trust formation and administration procedures of a trustee company and as such, the content of the modules may sometimes appear in a slightly different sequence.

Our Trainers

Peter K.T. Lee

Peter has spent over 35 years in trust and fiduciary, specialising in family trust structuring for high-net-worth individuals across Asia. He moved from ABN AMRO Bank’s Hong Kong Trust office to the Netherlands for six years before returning to Hong Kong to join DBS Bank Hong Kong, leading their family trust services department. He has also held the role of Director of DBS Bank Hong Kong trustee companies in Hong Kong, Jersey and New Zealand.

As a Chartered Company Secretary (UK and HK), Peter has been a part of global trainings across Amsterdam, London, Jersey and Singapore. He recently retired but is still an active mentor and trainer for numerous trust and asset planning programmes.

Ivy Suen

Ivy Suen is the Chief Strategy Officer at Group E Company Limited, where she leads group strategy and oversees operational activities across different markets. Drawing on over 25 years of industry experience, Ivy has emerged as an expert in the industry, advising ultra-high net worth families, individuals and corporations on complex wealth planning needs through personalised and comprehensive trust, fiduciary and insurance solutions, adaptable to the ever-changing financial and regulatory market.

Ivy had previously worked in a management role with international private banks, leading their trust and wealth planning divisions. Her work and oversight led to two major offshore insurance brokers, one based in the US and another in the UK, to expand their business to Asia. Both companies have since become market leaders in providing insurance brokerage and wealth planning services to ultra-high net worth clients in the region.
